Green Tea

Green tea is one of the most natural ways to improve the appearance of skin. It’s considered a “true tea,” along with white tea, black tea and oolong tea, which means that it’s minimally processed so it retains the most beneficial health compounds. We all know green tea for its impressive benefits for our internal health, but it’s equally as beneficial for our skin health too! Green tea contains high concentrations of antioxidants that help combat free radicals, which cause premature aging issues on our skin like fine lines, wrinkles and uneven pigmentation. It even contains a special antioxidant called epigallocatechin (EGCG) that is effective in rejuvenating dying skin cells, giving dull skin a healthier glow. But it doesn’t stop there ...

This powerhouse tea also contains tannins, which shrink pores (so they clog less often) and regulate sebum (the skin’s naturally produced oil), helping to minimize oil production in skin cells. Yes, green tea essentially acts as a natural skin toner! It’s also good at treating acne because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and contains moderate amounts of caffeine, which shrinks blood vessels to help reduce puffiness and redness

White Tea

Like green tea, white tea is one of the most natural ways to improve the appearance of skin. It’s considered a “true tea,” along with green tea, black tea and oolong tea, which means that it’s minimally processed so it retains the most beneficial health compounds. White tea has many of the same benefits as green tea, (link to the green tea page) such as high concentrations of antioxidants that combat symptoms of premature aging. It can also be beneficial for people who suffer from skin conditions such as rosacea and psoriasis because it contains epigallocatechin (EGCG), an antioxidant that’s effective in rejuvenating dying skin cells.

White tea is packed with high amounts of phenols, which can strengthen both collagen and elastin for a smoother, more youthful appearance to skin. It can also help restore the skin’s natural immunity to oxidation stress that results from prolonged exposure to the sun.

Sunflower Seed Oil

Sunflower seed oil is a non-comedogenic carrier oil (meaning that it won’t clog pores), and is highly absorbent and non-irritating for all skin types. It contains linoleic acid, which helps skin maintain its protective outer layer (therefore supporting its ability to retain moisture), and additionally protects skin against bacteria and germs. Bacteria can cause acne, so this oil is helpful in reducing acne! It also contains another beneficial acid called oleic acid, which is known for expediting the healing of wounds.

Sunflower seed oil is high in vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that combats free radicals. Vitamin E is incredibly moisturizing while promoting cell regeneration in order to revive dry, chapped skin.

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is pressed from the fruit and seeds of the rosa canina rose bush, and is loaded with skin-nourishing vitamins and a wealth of essential fatty acids like linoleic and linolenic – which support moisture retention by keeping skin cell walls fortified. It’s high in vitamin A (retinol), which encourages skin cell turnover, as well as vitamin C, which aids in cell regeneration. This makes rosehip oil a natural exfoliant that reduces dullness and promotes glowing, vibrant skin! Vitamins A and C are also necessary for the production of collagen, which is essential for skin elasticity and firmness, and are antioxidants that combat visible sun damage like hyperpigmentation.

Rosehip oil is rich in polyphenols and anthocyanin – as well as vitamin E – all known for reducing inflammation and the effects of it, such as rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis. It also contains phenols that have been shown to have antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Bulgarian Rose

Bulgarian Rose is a special breed of rose called Rosa Damascena, commonly known as Damask Rose. This rose extract contains many similar benefits to that of rosehip oil, such as reducing redness and inflammation, stimulating the production of collagen, and moisturizing skin. It’s also so potent with antimicrobial and anti-aging compounds that it’s known to be effective against incredibly dangerous bacteria like E. Coli and Staphlococcus aureus. This power also makes Damask Rose excellent for wound healing and reducing acne.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil comes from the seeds of the jojoba plant, which grows in the southern United States and northern Mexico. The fact that this plant thrives in the desert climate says a lot about it! Jojoba oil has been used by natives of the region for centuries to treat wounds, moisturize the skin and hair, and even to cook with.

This versatile oil has many beneficial properties, one being that it’s a humectant; this means it provides a soothing seal for skin and lips – a protective barrier that helps lock in moisture and prevent dehydration. Jojoba oil also naturally contains vitamin E, an antioxidant, so it helps your skin and lips fight oxidative stress caused by everyday exposure to the toxins in our environments. And even though jojoba oil comes from plants, its chemical makeup is so similar to the oil produced by our bodies that our skin can’t tell the difference. Why is this a good thing? Hypoallergenic jojoba oil is better absorbed by the skin and less likely to cause irritation and breakouts, providing soothing, moisturizing effects instead.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is another ingredient valued for its beneficial multitasking abilities! First and foremost, coconut oil is highly moisturizing. Because our lip skin is so delicate, lacking the same oil glands and protective barrier the rest of our skin has, coconut oil helps replenish lips with its intense hydration properties. Coconut oil is also known for being anti-inflammatory to help reduce swelling, and has pain-relieving properties as well. Like cocoa butter, coconut oil is also an emollient, meaning it forms a protective barrier that locks moisture in the skin. It’s such a great ingredient for replenishing dry, chapped lips with moisture.

Cocoa Butter

Our lip skin is even more delicate than the rest of our skin because it lacks the protective outer layer and oil glands our skin has. This makes our lips especially vulnerable to our environment; dry air, colder temperatures and wind all do a number on our lips, zapping moisture, causing dryness, and affecting fullness. Cocoa butter is a rich fat derived from cocoa beans, offering a protective barrier that supplies and retains moisture when placed on lips and skin. It also contains vitamins A, C and E – powerful antioxidants that aid in cell regeneration and combatting the damage caused by free radicals.

Shea Butter

Shea butter has been used for its exceptional moisturizing and hydrating properties for centuries. This natural ingredient contains the antioxidant vitamin A, which helps treat skin conditions like sunburn, wrinkles, blemishes and damage from free radicals in the environment. It also protects skin from UV radiation by acting as a natural sunscreen, and helps improve circulation. Rich in fatty acids, shea butter locks in essential moisture, leading to softer, suppler lips and skin.
